SUN, FEB 11 2024-theGBJournal| Sebastien Haller poked the ball into the net in the 80th minute of open play as Ivory Coast come from behind to beat Nigeria in the finals of the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations 2-1.

Striker Frank Kessie nodded in the equalizer in the 62nd minute after the Super Eagles struck in the 37th of the match to take the lead through Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong who rose above the Elephant defense to head Nigeria ahead.

It was a feisty first half. Good tempo and controlled pace. Ivory Coast held possession advantage and the Super Eagle played the long passes, looking to attack from the flanks, and on the counter.

The second half saw the Ivorians advance more boisterously into the Nigerian half, holding possession as much as they did in the first half.

The win will be Ivory Coast’s third Nation’s Cup victory-winning in 1992 and 2015. and becomes the first host to clinch the continental title after Egypt in 2006.
