A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) spokesman Oliseh Metuh, bail in the sum of N400 million and two sureties in like sum.

Ruling in the bail application, Justice Okon Abang ordered that the sureties must have landed properties worth N200 million and must be located within Maitama District of Abuja.

Abang said the sureties must have titled documents of the properties and evidence of tax clearance certificates.

He further ordered that the defendant must deposit his international passport with the Registrar of the Court.

The judge said Metuh should not be released until he fulfilled the bail conditions.

According to the judge, the court lacked jurisdiction to make pronouncement that the defendant was illegally detained in the EFCC custody.

He said the offence for which the defendant is standing trial was a bailable one, adding, “it is a trite law that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

It will be recalled that the EFCC had arraigned Metuh on a seven-count charge bordering on N400 million money laundering.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Justice Abang adjourned the case to Jan. 25 for hearing.
