Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, Speakers highlight reasons for instability in Northern Nigeria

WED APRIL 24 2024-theGBJournal| Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago was among some Northern Nigeria Governors at the opening of a symposium on insecurity and conflict resolution in Washington DC, USA.

The event was put together by the African Centre of the United States Institute of peace to discuss issues bordering on conflicts and insecurity with a view to finding lasting solutions to the menace that has continued to ravage the Northern Region.

The gathering with a focus on Drivers of Insecurity and Opportunities for Stabilization, would also consider ways of conflict prevention, mitigation and non-violent strategies of engaging armed groups among others.

During the opening, various speakers including Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago highlighted reasons for instability in the Northern Nigeria and current approaches to insecurity with a view to addressing them using some countries as case study.

High points of the event were contributions, observations, and recommendations for short, mid and long-term ways of preventing violence, while opportunities for disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of armed groups were also identified.
