KADUNA, JULY 18, 2016 – The national body of Petroleum Tanker Divers (PTD) on Monday announced the reinstatement of Alhaji Gambo Tuge, as Chairman of its Kaduna Unit.

Mr Salimon Oladiti, PTD National Chairman, said at a press conference in Kaduna that the gesture followed an order by the National Industrial Court.

He urged members of the union in Kaduna to disregard any statement from persons claiming to be in charge of the unit.

The briefing was conducted by Abdulkadir Garba, PTD Media Relations Officer, on behalf of the National Chairman.

Oladiti said the PTD only obeyed the ruling of the National Industrial Court on “a status quo ante that permits the substantive chairman of PTD Kaduna Unit, Comrade Gambo Tuge to resume his position.“

The chairman alerted security agencies that some disgruntled elements were trying to cause confusion in the union.

According to him, NUPENG and PTD are working to ensure that those behind the breach of peace in the Kaduna branch are brought to justice.

He also dismissed media reports that tanker drivers in the state had protested against NUPENG.

“It is a smack of intellect and naivety to think that PTD is protesting against NUPENG when the actual fact is that only last Friday and all through the weekend the two bodies met and took decisions that would bring lasting peace in Kaduna.

“The two unions jointly agreed to get those fomenting trouble behind bars for their alleged unruly behaviour and criminal tendencies,” Oladiti said.

“It would be recalled that we recently gave a rundown on the genesis of the crisis in the Kaduna PTD as allegedly perpetrated by Nuhu Muhammed dating back in 2013.

“Following disagreement during preparations for PTD elections, a legal action was instituted at the National Industrial Court.

“However, the continued disregard for the union hierarchy and constitution among other anti-union activities by Nuhu Muhammed, led to his suspension and he was later expelled by the National Administrative Council of the union,” Oladiti added.

The PTD national chairman enjoined all tanker drivers in Kaduna state to disregard comments emanating from any other group on behalf of the union.

Meanwhile, Tuge while assuming office in Kaduna pledged to restore sanity among members for the progress of the union.

Tuge appealed to the Kaduna members of PTD to embrace peace and avoid disputes for the progress of the union.
